Is there anyone else working with WP5.1/PRD installed in Windows XP. My PRD keeps going on and off. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Pat,
Does PRD have tech support? You might try that. Or if they have a web site maybe they have a place you can e-mail them?

When I bought my XP, I couldn't use my PRD either, had all kinds of problems. Seems my PRD was a DOS program which didn't work well with windows. I ended up buying Shorthand for Windows which works great with both Microsoft Word and WordPerfect. It can be downloaded right from the site. Here's their website addy: PC Shorthand for Windows Hope this helps! Toni

First of all thanks to you both for your replies.
Tonetta: Are you running WP5.1 in your XP?
Thanks again,
Pat

Hi, Pat... I also have XP/WP5.1/PRD. I work for a service and have a special boot disk to take me into DOS; the c:\ command prompt through Windows does not work. So I am completely out of Windows when I'm working. I'd like to be able to do other things with my Word Perfect (I have a friend who wants to use it...she's an older woman who doesn't know any other software for word processing and is back in college) but I can't figure out how to save the reports so I can print them (my printer will not print my DOS stuff). I can pull them into Word once I'm back in Windows, but I'm afraid my directory dedicated to her stuff will accidentally be sent to my employer! Not much help, I'm afraid...but I'll be reading the responses to your query with great interest! Good luck.

Hey, Toni--I don't know how much it will help you, but I do know that you can navigate around MS Word without a mouse. There are keyboard commands for virtually everything. When I worked at the local clinic, we switched over from 5.1 to Word and I was the guinea pig (having worked with Word before), and I absolutely rebelled against taking my hands off the keyboard, too! Anyway, there are keyboard shortcuts for most navigation tasks and you can also create your own using macros...I'd do anything to avoid using the mouse while I'm trying to type. We old-school typists who know how to type really fast and make our livings doing it really suffer with these Windows-based programs, but there are ways to work with it. It takes time to acclimate, but once you find them and work with them consistently, they become second-nature (when I switched back to 5.1, I remember how my fingers struggled to accurately find F4, F7, and F12 LOL).

Another question - My sweet husband got me a Gateway laptop for my birthday so I can type when away from home and keep up with my work - it comes with Windows XP Professional and I wonder what PRD is - haven't heard of it and am wondering if it's included in my software.

Amy,
PRD is a word expander program--not likely to already be in your laptop. It was the first expander program I ever used. I like it, but it used to be (don't know now) too pricey compared to other programs. It was like $400+ in 1993!

Thanks, Gracie - It worked!! Now if I could just get my cursor to go to the beginning of a line. I've tried home and also home left arrow, neither works. Any suggestions? Toni

Hi Gracie! Thanks SO much for taking the time to post the commands for Word. I printed them out taped them to my board. They'll save me loads of time. When I got my computer with Windows XP, Word was already installed so, of course, I didn't get a book with it. I know I can go to "help" but sometimes it's impossible to find answers, especially when you're strapped for time. Thanks again for being so kind. Have a great weekend! Toni
