I am trying to find out how to back up and print a copy of my auto correct entries in Windows XP. I searched for *.acl files and four were found. When I try to open any of the four, I get a caution message stating "Files are used by operating system and various programs.
Editing or modifying could damage your system" I am afraid to open them and lose what has taken me months to enter. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Make a change or addition to your current Autocorrect file, and then check the "last modified" date to see which of them is the one you want.

Incidentally, just looking at a file won't damage it -- just be sure you don't save it when you close it, and even if you've accidentally hit a key while you were looking at it nothing will change.

Also, a wonderful feature with Win XP (I have the Pro version but I assume it is also in the home version) is that you can create a restore point before you do something that might create problems. Then if you find you goofed and lost your files, you can go back and restore you computer to the time before you had problems.

You find restore by going to the start button and then going to help and support then look for system restore on the right -- easy process to do and it sure is nice if you install software that causes glitches -- you can easily restore and be back to where you were before you installed the software (the software will be removed).
