Hi
A C-phone is a telephone/transcriber combination by which you can dial in to a remote digital transcription system and transcribe jobs from the the remote digital transcription system. They are expensive to buy. I've seen used ones for $450. You have a phone with buttons at the bottom to compete a job (dictation), go to the beginning of a job, go to the end of a job, next job, previous job, etc. A headset and foot pedal plug into it. When you are using the C-phone to transcribe you are constantly using a phone line.
The company I work for leases the phone to me.
I have heard of Medquist. They are the largest transcription company in the United States and growing every day, from what I hear. They are buying small to medium transcription services. I regret to say I haven't heard a whole lot of positive things about them. I did just read an article yesterday on the multi-million dollar profit they made last quarter--it doesn't appear that they pass their good fortune on to their employees.
Hope this is of help!
