I have just been given a new doctor. He likes to use "fixing to" to mean "about to". I know we should let the doctors keep their own style, but do I actually type "fixing to"?

Thank you!!

Of course it's ultimately up to him, but I think "fixing to" is a little too slangy. I think I'd put "going to" in most situations -- "getting ready to" or "preparing to" could also work.

Thank you for your help!

I left it as "fixing to" this time (others were changed) in hope that he would catch it.

I have a doc who says "in lieu of" when he means "in light of." When I first heard it I thought there was a meaning I didn't know about, so I looked it up and there wasn't. I've been changing it for 5+ years and have never had him or anyone in the office say anything.

By the way, I say "fixing to" all of the time! My English teacher in high school used to ask me what was broken! (I am a long-transplanted Southerner to Maine). I wouldn't get mad if I said it and someone changed it on me!
