Hello everyone... I'm sorry for asking such a lamer question to you all but I have been researching for sometime the possibility of becoming an MT and I can not seem to pin point the best program for study at home to become an MT. I have no choice in the manner of study in that I am homebound, and I do very much want to learn and start in this wonderful and important field but the prices of the home courses and such are just so expensive, I simply can not afford to make the wrong choice. Also, they are all so varied in price that it's very hard to tell what the difference could possibly be for an extra 2000 plus dollars. Please, if anyone has a moment to spare, I would really appreciate some help with this.

Thank you so much.

Hi --

Since you are homebound, I assume you will want to work from home after you have finished your studies. Try asking the services that employ MTs from home about which schools' graduates they will employ without experience. You can also ask about the various courses at the following boards:
http://www.mtdaily.com/
http://www.mtchat.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

where you can find either current students or graduates who can tell you about the courses. There are also links to national services at both boards, and classified ads that could lead you to other potential employers. I would also suggest that you check the web sites of the individual schools to find out just what reference materials you get with the course (if you're working at home, you will need the best references you can manage), and what kind of instructional support is available to students beyond the actual course materials. In general, training your EARS is the most difficult part of the learning process, so the amount of practice dictation is a very, very important part of your education.

Good luck!

Hi. An excellent MT course that you may want to check out is CAI Transcription. I just completed this course and I am soooo happy with it. It is totally comprehensive. Everything you will ever need to know...
The price is very user-friendly also!
Check it out at: www.caihometype.com
