I may be posting in the wrong place, but I figured someone might know. I have heard of a book called The Drug Book which has spellings of all drugs. It is a reference book, but I have been unable to find it anywhere. I don't know who the author/publisher is, sorry. As far as I know, that is the complete title.

The most helpful drug book I have found so far is "American Drug Index 1999" It lists all of the drugs, including OTC and the various forms and dosages. It also tells you very briefly what type of drug it is so you can make sure the drug you type in does match up with the diagnosis, as well as the dosage. I beleive this can be orderd on the net. It also includes a section titled "Drugs that look and sound alike" which is sometimes helpful when you "just know" you are hearing a particluar word/sound. You can look up the drug you think it is and find what the Dr. is really saying! Another pretty good quick, small and cheap referance is the Generic-Brand Comparison Handbook from UDL Laboratories. I think it was only about $2 (yes that is "two"!) I'll have to look for my order form to get the address if you are interested in ordering this one. It's a nice little pocket-size book that lists the most commonly prescribed generic and brand name rx. It's about 60 pages, so it's a good "starter" book. Hope this info helps!

Kris:

We have a ton of medical reference book titles on our "Medical Books" page that you may want to review. I'm sure you will find something there to help but I agree with momshome that the American Drug Index 1999 is a good buy. You can find that book listed as well as others at:

I use the Quick Look Drug Book. Drugs are listed by generic and trade names. It lists dosages and dosage forms as well as a sound-alike comparison list, new drugs introduced or approved by the FDA, drugs no longer available, and an indication/therapeutic category index (that is my favorite part - if you know what kind of condition the patient has and you can't understand what the doctor is dictating, you can almost always figure it out from the indication index). The Quick Look Drug Book is published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins and you can order it from Stedmans (Web address - www.stedmans.com

Many thanks to everyone who posted! Although I still don't know if I got my answer, I am very thankful that some book titles were given. I will definitely investigate!

SOMara, the first place I look for books (or anything related to medical transcription) is at Medword.com! I love it!
