Kris: That's great! Thank you! Meanwhile . . . back to transcribing. (It's more fun chatting.) SOMara

Kris - Are you possibly referring to "The PILL BOOK"? It is found in super markets, drug stores, etc., and is a good resource for drugs. It is a paper back and is CHEAP - about $7. (It is reprinted about every 18 to 24 months.) I am an RN and use this resource frequently because it is easy to use, especially for teaching purposes and quick look-ups. I also recommend it to my patients as a resource because it is inexpensive and easy to use.
Info: The Pill Book - 8th edition ISBN# 0-553-57971-1 - published by Bantam Editor-in-chief - Harold M. silverman, Pharm. D.
If this is not the book you are looking for, sorry - but hope it may help you anyway.

Marti, As far as I knew, the book was called The Drug Book. I know what The Pill Book is, and it's not the same thing at all. I went ahead and bought the Pharmaceutical Word Book and have been very happy with it. The book I thought was called The Drug Book may very well have been the Quick Look Drug Book. I must not have been paying very close attention!

Has anyone ever used the MDR CD as a drug reference while transcribing and questioning a drug? I find it to be great and it's not that expensive. They usually have up-dated versions (twice or more a year). I work in Word 97, so I placed it in my Microsoft Office Shortcut so that I can easily go into it while typing.

Renee, Am looking into software. Tell me more about MDR CD. Who puts it out? Where can it be ordered? How much does it cost? Ange

MDR is put out by Parsons Technology. The most recent version I have is 4.2 but I think a new one just came out 4.3. It's approximately $15.00 to obtain an up-dated version (not to sure about the original cost, but I believe it was about $30). You can get either a CD or disk. They have a website, too.
Hope this helps. Anymore questions, just ask. I'll try and help you.

Renee, Found Parsons. They still list version 4.2 so will wait til Monday to call them directly. You were right about the price - $29.95. Have used other software from Parsons in the past and have always found them reasonable and very good about updates. Thanks for the input. Ange

Another good source for new stuff is the Monthly Prescribing Reference (which is something many doctors have a subscription to; however, you don't have to be a doctor to subscribe.) I like the American Drug Index myself the best, but you can't beat the Monthly Prescribing Reference for new drugs on a monthly basis. Also, nursing drug references are pretty good sources also.
