Having to change from transcribing in Word to a typing package called Chartnet. Anyone out there made this transition and if so, what are your thoughts?

Have you been to their website? It sounds like a very good program, assuming you don't have to share shortcuts with all the other MTs (I read about normal reports that could be shared and shortcuts already built in, but hopefully each MT can customize things for herself. Here's the website:

http://www.hudson-medical.com/cn-transcription.htm

Here's something I copied from there that you should be very grateful for: "Designed to be used without a mouse so that transcriptionists can keep their hands on the keyboard to maximize their productivity."

This is a Word-based program, BUT they understand that using a mouse is a bad thing for a transcriptionist because you have to take your hands off the keyboard. If I were you I'd ask for the list of key commands from the start, instead of first learning how to move around with the mouse.

Yeah, well, I've been "trained" by their trainers, and that's not exactly right. Their program is part WordPerfect, part Word - Now that I've spend the past 2 years learning to make Word work like I want, I'm having to go back now and re-learn some of the old WP commands. Lots of keys to have to hit to even get to the page where I type the report. They said that it will do everything that Word will do, but we immediately showed them that it's not necessarily true. Their short-cut program works like the old PRD where you have to "remember" what you named them. I've been using autotext in Word heavily which are "template specific" autotext, and I'm losing that functionality.....a little frustrated at this point but keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for your post, though.

typeallday,

Sounds like you work for who I work for. I really do not like their platform either, but I have been with them for over one year. You cannot transfer shortcuts from Word into their platform, for some reason...........I wish we could, then I would not have to do this as I go all of the time, although I have about 7000 shortcuts in there.

Hello everyone, I am really scared here. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My company that I currently work for is thinking of changing my account to ChartNet. I currently work in Word. I love it because I can use SmarType and my SpeedType programs. I have typed a little in ChartNet and I HATED IT!!!! It does not carry over any of the shortcut programs and it just stinks!! It is like a foreign program or something. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on using shortcut programs in this ridiculous ChartNet program? HEEEEELP!! :-D
