Good morning.
Back again. Have been busy with work and did not make it back here. I guess the fact that I am working speaks for itself in so far as Meditec and the E&L program. I have been on a hospital account getting very good experience for two months since I graduated Meditec. I started working two days after graduating. I am typing all the usual hospital reports, but I also type 90% operatives. I'm told I do this very very well. I credit Meditec for that.
I looked around before deciding to take an MT online course. I had all the same questions and fears that everyone has. I actually chose another school (not knowing of Meditec) and boy did I regret it. The other school that will remain nameless, but has been mentioned in this post, wanted over twice what it cost me to go through Meditec. I paid my money, and two months later I was still trying to get through a tedious 250 pages of what was basically a business English course! Not one reference in these 250 pages was made to MT and how rules applied to the field. Meditec was able to cover this subject quickly and efficiently with samples of how it pertained to MT. I graduated Meditec in 4 months. I peeked back at the other board and there were still people stuck in Chapter 3 "English"....Bummer. Btw, I paid over a grand for books at this school that still hadn't arrived after two months. My instructor told me that you could get through the course with nothing more than a dictionary and online resources until you get to the transciption phase so don't sweat it! Well, if that's the case, why did I just pay over $1000.00 for books, I had to ask myself?? Actually, she was absoulutely correct. With online resources these days, you can find any, all, and more of the information the basic text books cover! Meditec is able to offer a much less expensive course because you are not made to purchase unecessary materials. I took the money I saved on the course, even after $500 for the E&L, and puchased 21 Stedman's Word Books that I really need now that I am working. I am still hundreds of dollars away from what the other courses would have cost me!
Meditec's course had a wonderful flow. Each subject incorporated information from the previous subject and built on it. There was always a strong focus on how everything applied to MT. I was learning without even trying sometimes. I never became bored or disinterested and I actually had alot of fun and enjoyed it! The course was written by an MT. Very well thought out and very effective! I would have easily paid twice the amount for this course! The individualized attention to any and all questions I had was worth the price of admission!!
I played around with my resume after graduating and Medquist was ready to hire me within a week. I chose to turn them down and complete the E&L program which was a goal of mine. I don't regret it at all. It is like "continuing on-the-job education" and I am making money, typing actual reports of course, and learning from the best. I have an excellent editor who has been in the field many years. She is teaching me how to apply AAMT guidelines to everything I do. I get excellent feedback. Next month I will just ease into my new position with the well-known and reputable company I am being contracted out to at this time. I will know their doctors, their system, their rules. What more could I ask for? I am making half the amount per line now while still in the learning phase. The other half goes to my editor and she is definately worth it! I would have paid $500 for what she is teaching me and typed for free. I am not the fastest typist in the world but I am typing sometimes 10-12 reports a shift now with a very high accuracy rate. I am drawn to ops so 98% of my reports are operatives. My speed increases naturally and my focus is always on accuracy. My editor's goal is to have me maintaing 98-100% accuracy in my reports by the end of the program. I have typed many reports the past couple weeks that have come back with absolutely no editing. Compared to Day 1, this is amazing. I am becoming more and more confident and see my progress in a major way. I have no doubt that I will be an "above-average" transcriptionist thanks to Meditec, it's employees, it's creator, and my editor and the E&L program. I'll give myself some credit here too. I have worked very hard, and I'm no spring chicken! I also have no doubt that I could pass anyone online exam around and type their test dictations with 98% or better accuracy rate. I have already done that!
I don't know what else I can say. The quality of the course was amazing. No frills, just what I needed. The best decision I have made in a long time!
Btw; the other school sent me a check one day for my full tuition and asked me in return to please make a statement to the BBB board that my issues with them had been resolved. Does this sound like I was being bought to revise my original complaint? I thought so.
Happy to reply to the request by the previous poster who wanted to hear praises from a Meditec grad. I am very proud to be a Meditec graduate!
Have a wonderful day and thanks for letting me share my experience with what I consider a very reputable school.
