BRONCHOSCOPY REPORT
DATE OF PROCEDURE: February 2, 2012
INDICATIONS: Rule out carcinoma.
RISK FACTORS: Heavy smoking history.
ANESTHESIA: The patient was premedicated with atropine 0.6 mg IM. The patient was also given 8 mg morphine sulfate IV and 25 mg Valum IV during the procedure. Lidocaine spray 1% approximately 10 mL.
UPPER AIRWAY EXAMINATION: The epiglottis and base of the tongue were within normal limits. The _________ sinus and pharynx were within normal limits. Vocal cords appearance and movement within normal limits. Trachea was within normal limits. The patient was intubated with a #8 Shiley tube. The tube was placed 5 cm above the carina without any difficulty.
LOWER AIRWAY EXAMINATION: Tracheal mucosal was within normal limits. There was minimum amount of secretion. The main carina was sharp and within normal limits. Both mainstream bronchi were examined to the subsegmental level. No endobronchial abnormality was noted.
PROCEDURES: (1) Brushing was done under fluoroscopy guidance in RB2, (2) biopsies were done in RV2 under fluoroscopic guidance. No abnormal amount of bleeding noted after biopsy. No pneumothorax noted on fluoroscopy.
POST PROCEDURE: Condition of patient: The patient was extubated without any difficulty. Oxygen saturation remained about 90% throughout the procedure. Breath sounds were equal on both sides. No hemoptysis noted. The patient was transferred home in satisfactory condition.
