I just finished all of my schooling and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for companies that may be hiring? I'll transcribe for out of state companies but I am from Texas. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

I would love to know about these compaines that are hiring also. I just finished school last month. I am having a hard time finding a job because just about everyone wants some experience.

I will have to agree. If anyone finds a company that is hiring new MTs they should let us all know. I finished last month and have been putting in applications all week and no hit yet, but if I get a hit or hired I will be happy to let all of you know.

What is the website for Inscribe? When I bring up the site all I get is a company that deals with invitations, etc.
Thanks for the help.

Actually, yes, I have been working for 4 years - I just discovered this forum and thought I'd pop in every once in awhile to see if I could be of assistance.

For all of you that just finished school...did your school say they would help you find a job upon completion? I haven't started yet and my school promises this but I don't know if I should believe it. And for anyone that has been working for some time...I read a post on another site from someone that has worked for some time and barely brings in minimum wage. Is this really a concern?

Lauren, I completed the Career Step program (in Canada -called Canscribe) and found work immediately upon completing the practicum. There are MTSOs that specifically hire Career Step graduates - I was very satisfied both with the training I received and with my employment. My first paycheque was in the 500 dollar range, for 2 weeks' work, as I was new and very slow, but it has more than doubled (more like tripled) since. Pay depends upon the company you work for - some pay terribly and others pay very well. You have to do your research. I am working for MedQuist and their pay rate is very competitive.

Rabbit- Thank you very much! I've heard good and bad about Medquist, I haven't made a decision yet on how I feel about the company. I get the feeling it's something you can't knock until you try! I appreciate your insite!

I have to vent a little here...
I went back into the MT world 5 years ago, thinking there was a little more job security, and wanted a change from what I was doing. At that point I'd had a couple of MT jobs in the past, and thought I'd get back into it. Boy, what a mistake that turned out to be.
The hospital I worked for for 5 years decided to outsource its MT department. December 31, 2011, was our last day as employees of this hospital; as of January 1, we are now employees of a transcription company. I am so disgusted with this whole thing.
I went from 17 an hour plus full benefits to 4cpl. What a kick in the teeth. Apparently, this is all we are worth right now in society. If companies weren't oursourcing overseas, our wages would be higher tan 4 cpl. Where does HIPAA fit into all of this? The HIPAA laws don't pertain to people overseas doing our medical work. They work for mere pennies per line, which has driven down what we make here in the states. I find this a digusting exploitation of our talents as MTs. I wonder if they have to be able to speak and understand our language to even DO transcription.
I am telling anyone and everyone who might be thinking about MT as a career: RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN TO ANOTHER PROFESSION. This ain't it. I'm glad I have a degree so I can go elsewhere for a job.
Also, be warned: Any hospital/agency/group that has "St." this or "St." that in front of their name ISN'T a saint. It's a business like everything else and money is the bottom line. I can't stand people who use religion as a front.

I finished in December and just this past weekend was able to get everything together for a resume. I graduated from Allied and did pay for "job assistance", however, they do not guarantee job placement..... We shall see!!! Lauren, I've been looking all day at MT positions and basically from what I've seen, they pay based on experience. The problem that I'm seeing is that they ALL want 2-3+ years of experience, so PLEASE, if anyone knows of a company that will hire a "newbie" please, please, please, share with us!!! :-)
