Hi, all. I'm not sure if I've taken the time to introduce myself or not. Briefly, I've done MT for about 10 years and have also done medical billing, reception and assisting. Though I currently do not work on Medword.com, I worked on it for quite awhile when I lived in SC (and I really liked that program), so I hope you don't get mad at me posting here.

I have a question about finger fractures. I've had two doctors dictate in the past 2 days, a P1 and a P2 fracture, and when it comes to the assessment, we're not allowed to abbreviate. What does a P1 or P2 fracture stand for? Phalangeal? Posterior (P1 meaning posterior first finger?).

I truly would appreciate any help. Thank you so much in advance!

Tammy (In Ohio where it has gotten darned cold!) I'm extremely grateful to work from home where I usually have one of my pugs in my lap. LOL!

Tammy --
I googled P1 fracture finger
and this turned up:
http://tinyurl.com/yjdu29u

I didn't read the whole section, but from the title of the final section, it would appear that P1 refers to the proximal phalanges. Also, if you google P2 fracture it takes you to another section of the same book that refers to the middle phalanges. I don't know if you would refer to first or second phalanx or proximal or middle phalanx -- might be a good idea to ask your employer.

Thanks so much. I got so much differing info from Google that my head was spinning, The company I work for makes my head spin enough, I don't need Google doing it too - LOL. I'm wondering if Bing.com is worth it.

A P1 fracture is a proximal phalanx fracture
A P2 fracture is a middle phalanx fracture
A P3 fracture is a distal phalanx fracture
