Just wanted to check out your perspective on when and where to use ellipsis marks in a transcript - we have a style guide and we are pretty sure of the UK style, but we have quite varying expectations from our US and Australian clients.

I don`t believe it would ever be correct to use ellipsis marks in medical or legal transcription in either the US or Canada, although I have been instructed to use them once or twice by dictators (that`s over a period of 40+ years, by the way). For interview transcription, I would consult the client.
