There are many challenges as a work at home medical transcriptionist. The hardest challenge for work-from-home transcriptionists is discipline. Many people fail when it comes to this, but you need to commit yourself to a set schedule. There are many temptations around your house that will take you away from your work schedule. You may find yourself taking more breaks, going to the kitchen for a snack often, or watching your favorite daytime TV show.

Almost everyone at some point will procrastinate, the key to being successful is to limit those times. A set schedule is the utmost importance when it comes to working from home. You will need to close the door to your home office and work away with minimal distractions, which include unwelcome visits from your spouse or children. I cannot stress that enough; you will have to meet certain deadlines often. The doctor you are transcribing for is expecting you to finish your work by a specific deadline. That means you will need to finish the job on time if you want continual work from him or her. The golden rule to working from home is discipline.

You no longer have a boss over your shoulder; you are considered the boss, so you need to start acting like a boss. You need to be in command of everything. That includes being a medical transcriptionist, an office manager, an accountant, a marketing department, etc.

There are many benefits to being your own boss and having your own medical transcription business. One of the most important benefits is being flexible with your schedule. You will be able to work around your doctor's appointments, children's activities, and your spouse's schedule. Another benefit that many lose sight of is that if you have small children, you may be able to keep them out of daycare and work around your spouse's schedule. This is a great way to save yourself money and more importantly spend more time with your children.

How great would it be to roll out of bed, walked down the hallway, and start working in your pajamas? No more long commutes to the office, no more business attire, no more expensive lunch, and no more worrying about your kids being watched by a stranger at daycare.

Work-from-home medical transcriptionist it is not for everyone. Here are some questions to see if you can succeed: Can I be my own boss? Can I Stay at home and be disciplined enough to work from home? Can I set my own schedule and be distraction free? Do I have the desire to continually learn and adapt to new changes and challenges along the way? Can I meet deadlines? Can I work from a computer all day long? Am I able to schedule my work to coexist with my personal life?

Those questions above are just the starting point to see if I have what it takes to become a work-from-home medical transcriptionist. If you answered yes to most of those questions, then working from home may be a perfect fit for you. If you had many no's from those questions, don't give up, think of a solution to make the question a YES.
