Unfortunately you are in the same position as many other newbies. The state of the economy doesn't help--if there are experienced people out there looking they will likely be considered before you.
I would suggest having some inexpensive business cards made up and drop off or mail to doctor's offices. Maybe they have overflow you can do or even cover for a vacationing or sick MT. That's a good way to get experience if you can do that. They might not call right away but they might think of you when they are in a situation where they need some help or coverage. If the offices already have a service doing their transcription perhaps you can apply with them.
Do you know any MTs in your area?? Perhaps picking their brains would help. If there is an AHDI meeting in your area, I would suggest attending a meeting and seeing what kind of networking opportunities there are (and also possibly joining--lots of info there).
Hope that helps!
