Hi all,
I was doing some research and found this site the other day, browsed around a bit, and saw this post. I work for Inscribe and just wanted to address a few of the issues brought up here. I'm going to try to use the quote feature - please forgive me if I mess it up!!
Inscribe is just a training company where they ask you to give online tests, really time taking, and no matter how good you do, in the end they tell you that your scores were not good, so you need to join their Transcription course.....losers...
Not true. I don't really know where you got that idea, but I can assure you there are plenty of us who have passed the test and have been hired.
I went to their website and the red flag for me was "To date, InScribe has hired 100% of their graduates." To me that could possibly mean that their graduates would have a difficult time working anywhere else. I also saw no mention whatsoever of the AHDI Book of Style, which is used by the majority of transcription services as their go-to book for style.
Also, no mention of being accredited by AHDI, which is the only organization currently accrediting schools (I'm not talking about the Better Business Bureau approval or State accreditation--different criteria are used by those organizations).
I would personally THOROUGHLY investigate this school (or any school for that matter) before enrolling.
Just my 2 cents.
First of all, I totally agree that you should research any school before enrolling. Second, I didn't take the Inscribe course myself so I don't know a lot about it as far as how prepared you would be after completing it. Also, I don't know if the powers that be at Inscribe even know about the AHDI credentialing thing for schools in order to submit for approval. On the other hand, there are schools listed by AHDI as "approved" that personally I wouldn't trust with my career. I went to M-TEC myself, back before they changed things up. I hear it's not as good as it used to be, but I haven't paid a lot of attention so not sure on that one. Anyway, getting off track here...
We do use the BOS to fall back on. We have an Inscribe standards document and individual account specifics documents, and if it isn't mentioned in either of those, we go with what it says in the BOS. Of course, I'm speaking of actually working and not as it pertains to the course. Again, I really don't know much about the school side of things.
What I DO know is that Inscribe has indeed hired 100% of their graduates so far; however, the program is only maybe a year old I believe, possibly less, and I get the feeling it isn't exactly flooded with students if ya know what I mean. I could be wrong on that. Maybe there are more than I know and it's just that the program is too new to have many graduates yet.
So this is like TransScam (sorry TransAm) claiming you need more training and if you pay $400.00, we will help you. .but you never become good enough. ..thanks for the heads up!
Inscribe is nothing like TranScam (you had it right the first time LOL). I do know of one or two MTs who have completed the Inscribe course and have started working for Inscribe. There are currently a LOT of new people who have started within the last couple of months, but I don't know how the majority of them were hired, i.e., from CareerStep, Inscribe U, or an experienced MT looking for a change. Like I said, a couple of people have mentioned to me that they took the Inscribe course, but I haven't taken a poll or anything like that.
I actually like working for Inscribe, and I think that was the original post, looking for a job rather than a school. I've been with Inscribe for over a year now. It's a family atmosphere which I absolutely love. They actually encourage us to help each other out, and one of the first things they ask you to do when you get hired is send a global email introducing yourself and letting everyone know what your IM name is so you can get added to our lists. I've been an MT for about 7 years now, and this is the only company I've come across that actually tells you who their other MTs are and encourages you to be in contact with them. It's comforting knowing that I have people I can ask to do a quick listen for me if all I'm hearing is gobbledygook.
It's not all butterflies and lollipops of course. They require a very high quality score, but they also offer steps to help you reach that quality if you fall below it. Things can get stressful at times when it seems every account is overloaded with work and we get these emails from the managers in all caps and red letters begging for help at first and then demanding when the situation gets more dire, but it's not like you're going to get fired for not helping out beyond your work window, though it certainly may feel like it at times lol.
They pay via direct deposit twice a month. I've never been paid late or short in my year plus with them. They hire you as independent contractors, but you do have to work a set schedule. They do what they can to accommodate the schedule you want. There are people who work some pretty strange schedules, like Mondays 7-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. for example, though of course it also depends on when they need people.
I can't really think of anything else. If you have specific questions, I'd be glad to try and answer them.
Have a good one!
