Hi there -
Well I'm a new graduate in search of that elusive first job...have sent out over 70 resumes this past week alone but realize that the majority of them are being sent out to MT companies. Rather than cold call every major hospital that I can find, I'm just wondering whether there is a good online list of US-based hospitals that utilize in-house transcription services.

Does anyone know of that sort of thing? Of course if there aren't any responses, I guess I'll begin my calls!!

Thanks,
Lauren

Hi Lauren:

Try www.hospitalsoup.com --they have a lot of hospitals and other healthcare facilities there with links to their websites so you could possibly apply for an opening on line if they had it.

Good luck in your search!

Congrats Lauren - I wish you luck in finding a good job. I will tell you this, and this is only based on my personal experience - try your local hospitals first. In the 20 years that I have been an MT, I have found that working with a "local" place is much more enjoyable. You tend to know your coworkers a little better, your supervisor, etc. Also, if there's ever a catastrophe like we had here with the hurricanes, you can usually go in and work in-house instead of losing a week's pay when you don't have internet service.

I have had a few coworkers work for online MT companies and they all came back eventually, and it usually didn't take very long.

Good luck!

Medical transcription became a very good profession for young graduates. You can find some jobs here. Free samples for clients can be provided.

try going door-to-door, ask to speak to manager. don't just leave your resume with the receptionist, it will never get to the right place. tell manager you will fill in for vacations, sick leave, overflow. if u are good, word will get around.

go on www.indeed.com type in medical typist or medical transcriptionist and location. check www.craigslist.com don't rule out insurance companies; life insurance, medical malpractice. i worked seven years for a medical malpractice insurer. i really got an eye and earful there. i typed doctor statements, summons & complaints, expert opinions. i worked for a book publisher at one time who happened to publish medical books. i worked as a unit secretary at night and i learned quite a bit there as well.
