Hello,

New to MT Gab. Looks like a lot of useful info here. Wondering if anyone has had experience with transcribing from files transferred from a PDA? One of my docs just approached me about setting myself up for digital transcription because he wants to use his new PDA for dictation. I have to meet with him on Monday regarding this and would like to appear somewhat informed on the subject. I'm afraid at this point, I am not informed at all! Have always transcribed the old fashioned way, micro tape. I am pretty much in the dark regarding digital technology for transcription. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome--

Check out this link on the Medword.com site--it's an overview of digital dictation:

I think your doc can dictate on a PDA with specialized software (I know just enough to be dangerous). However, I don't know what programs are the best, etc.

You're lucky--I can't get mine to make the switch!

Excellent! Thank you, kkb, for the information. It's a whole different world that I'm learning a lot about over the past couple of days. So far, from what I have read, a lot will depend on the size of the file he sends and having our softwares compatible with one another. There is an interesting one out there called Opus. He may be able to email me securely with that software, but if the file is too large (over 2 mb) my email will more than likely puke. I may need to look into some sort of an FTP server. Anyway, the prospect is exciting. My eventual hope is to be able to do absolutely everything on-line... receive, transcribe, transfer all the data without having to go the 52 miles I go now to pick up and deliver tapes, schedules, and hard copy. I'm sure ya'll have been there. Sure can eat a huge amount of valuable typing time out of the day, not to mention cost big $$ in gas.

Thanks again for the direction. A lot of great info in that link that gives me a much better idea of how it all works.
