Check out the "backing up autocorrect/shortcut" thread under Experienced MTs--last post 03/09/08--about the 6th thread down. That information would apply to your situation also.
I know a lot of people use Autocorrect (I did for a short period of time), but you can get a good expander for under $100 and back up your list on a daily basis with very little hassle. Another thing about buying one is that it will track your improved productivity and you can see how many keystrokes you saved. Also, if you ever have to change to another expander program most of them will convert their lists into the new one.
