So, lets add a little life to this forum with this little tidbit...

How long are your fingernails? Do clip them, paint them, bite them?

Me?- I've been a chronic nail biter all my life. The ends of my fingers are always longer than the nails. The nails just cover the distal surface of each nail.

I wash the hands good all the time and use sani-cloth wipes regularly on my keyboard (to keep it clean).

I seem to be able to type faster than anyone and prefer having no nails in my way.

Your turn, tell us all about your fingernails

Okay... I keep my nails clipped to just past the end of my fingers. I have trouble typing when they get too long, and then I have trouble typing after they have been long and I clip them - takes me about a day to get used to the new length. I paint them sometimes, most times. I went to school with a girl who had EXTREMELY long nails, and she said they did not get in her way. Okay, next ...

Right now mine are short, but it depends on my mood. I had long ones from August until October last year. I usually only paint them if I am growing them out--strengthens them to put polish on.

Neither seems to affect my keyboarding skills in a negative manner, though usually it feels weird if I have had them long and cut them all off (usually because I have multiple breaks so I just get rid of them all instead of having different lengths).

Next . . .

Used to be a nail-biter, so the solution was to keep them short. Now, I can`t stand to have them as long as my fingers, because they catch on the keys above the ones I want to type on.

In the nail-polishing years, I could never polish them w/o making a big mess, and the polish never lasted more than a few hours w/o chipping.

Now I`m 73 and can`t bite them any more because of plastic teeth laugh , but I still don`t let them grow.

Me too. It makes me nuts when my nail start hooking up on other keys, so there's barely any white on my nails most days. I've never been a biter anyway, but I always keep them trimmed.

I used to be a nail-biter when I was younger, my nails were always paper thin. When I was pregnant with my 5-year-old the prenatal vitamins made them thicker and they were more difficult to bite (actually painful at times because they would end up ripping too short and I'd end up bleeding, ouch).

They seem to be thicker now (better diet, less junk food, etc. the reason maybe?) and there is usually about 1/4 inch of white on the ends. If I break one, I clip them all otherwise they drive me nuts. I don't usually paint them unless it's a shmancy occasion or my 15-year-old step-daughter feels like giving me a manicure. The polish is usually half pealed off by the end of the first day so it's a waste of my time.

a low amount of calcium can also be the cause of thin nails, which in turn goes with the above said dietary things.

White... on fingernails? There was only about a 2-3 week span mine ever had that.. and that is only because I was temporarily incapacitated at the time. Otherwise, I sit and peel the nails away. My regular doc checked my calcium level and it turns out I'm just one of those people who was born with thin nails.
