OK, I have to put my two cents in. Here goes:
1. The original 1930 James Whale-directed version of Frankenstein. Two big thumbs-up!
2. Yet another James Whale effort; The Bride of Frankenstein, the 1931 sequel to the original movie. Elsa Lanchester's brief appearance as The Monster's bride is worth all the buildup before we get to see her. Also, rave review for the actor who played Dr Pretorius!!!! What ever happened to this guy.
3. Cabaret (with Liza Minelli and Joel Gray), always a great viewing experience no matter how many times viewed.
4. Apocalypse Now. An incredible Francis Ford Coppola film with Martin Sheen and Brando the Great!
5. In Cold Blood. I believe this film was made in the 1960s; of course based on the Truman Capote book of the same name. A really stellar performance by a very young Robert Blake as one of the perpetrators of a heinous crime; a true story and very riveting.
OK, please do not get an impression of my personality from my fav movie list here. I really am not a serial killer or some other terrible thing.
If I have to add one more as a sixth choice, I would include "Natural Born Killers," with Woody Harrelson and Juliet Lewis, a Quentin Tarantino flick. It is wonderful, if one likes this type of viewing experience. OK, enuff from me.

Everyone will know what a goofball I am now...but I love 1. Airplane. 2. Spaceballs. 3. Hope Floats. 4. Father of the Bride (1 and 2). 5. Miss Congeniality. Looking at my list makes me really doubt my sanity! As far as Christmas goes, I have two younger brothers, and we faithfully watch Christmas Vacation every year because everyone says our dad is the real-life version of Eddie. Dena

This really made me think. In no particular order:
Forrest Gump Apollo 13 Honeymoon in Vegas Cover Girl (Gene Kelly, Rita Hayworth) My Fair Lady
There are about half a dozen more that I had to weed out reluctantly from the top 5, but I would have to say that these are the ones that I could watch over and over and over.

This is toooo much fun! I tried to come up with 5 but got more like 35...all your lists made me add movies to my list. (And I've often been accused of "loving" every movie I've ever seen--which is simply NOT TRUE.)
Grouped by genre because I can't possibly rate them:
Comedies: City Slickers, When Harry Met Sally, Dave, In and Out, French Kiss (Kevin Kline makes my toes curl!), Michael, Christmas Vacation, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Steel Magnolias. Romance: The Goodbye Girl, Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, and Somersby. Drama: To Kill A Mockingbird, Glory, Shindler's List (oy, that music!!), The Abyss, Memento (I have never worked harder in my life to enjoy a movie more), Shawshank Redemption, The Karate Kid, Rudy, and Mr. Holland's Opus. Musicals: Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, The King and I (and the dramatic version, Anna and the King, is pretty good, too), and Grease.* Adventure: The Mask of Zorro, The Fifth Element, and Star Wars.
And finally, because I can't categorize them: Shrek (you gotta love the big ogre) and Good Will Hunting (quite possibly the best written movie ever, and by two gorgeous babies, too).
These are just some of the movies I've seen over and over and over.
*But the movie I've seen more than any other, ever, is Jesus Christ Superstar (62 times and counting!).
Hmmm...guess I don't sound very discriminating, do I? Hope I never have to come up with (or pare down) a guest list for anything.
