These are my top 5, not really blockbusters like Titanic or Pearl Harbor, but I enjoy watching these over and over again (although occasionally I move one out of the top 5 and replace it with another one).

#1 - Funny Farm - Chevy Chase and Madolyn Smith. We watch this as a family every Christmas. A classic! This has been in the #1 spot for several years.

#2 - The Bridges of Madison County - Meryl and Clint - What a combo!

#3 - Ghost - Whoopi, Patrick Swayze, and Demi Moore - Fun mixed with suspense.

#4 - The Sixth Sense - Every time I watch this, I see something I missed the time before.

#5 - TIE (I'm cheating here!) - Groundhog Day, Moonstruck, Chocolat, The Ten Commandments.

What about yours??

Wow Tonetta, this is a REALLY tough question. I am an old movie junkie! Here goes:

#1 - AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER - No matter how many times I watch this, I always cry at the end. Sleepless in Seattle was a good remake with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks replacing Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

#2 - IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE - We always watch this one at Christmas along with A Christmas Story.

#3 - GASLIGHT - I think it is one of Ingrid Bergman's best movies.

#4 - GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER - A great movie about tolerance. The last movie with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn was one of their best.

#5 - OVERBOARD - Not as old as the others, but Goldie Hawn is great in this movie.

Also, if you get a chance to watch any of the movies that were made between 1929-1934 you would be amazed. This was before the Hayes Act that started censoring movie content to save the morals of the country. A lot of the same things that happen now were happening then, they just didn't want to talk about it after 1934!

I didn't count the Christmas movies. My top 5 Christmas faves are:

#1 - Funny Farm
#2 - It's Wonderful Life
#3 - Emmett Otter's Junk-Band Christmas
#4 - A Christmas Carol (we have 3 versions, 1938 with Reginald Owen and Gene Lockhart, 1951 with Alastair Sim, and 1984 with George C. Scott).
#5 - TIE (cheating again!) - Miracle on 34th Street, Frosty the Snowman, The Santa Clause with Tim Allen, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

We have a couple of family video nights during the holidays just to wind down and enjoy each other's company. It's one of my favorite times of year, and I usually really go hog wild with everything. I want to "make memories" for my kids and grandkids.

Have a great day! wavey

Christmas just wouldn't be the same without having the little ones around, would it! My favorite is when my 3-year-old great nephew opened a present last year to find a shirt and pair of pants. He became so excited about it saying "I got clothes! Oh my gosh, I got clothes". That little guy would not opened any more presents until he stripped down and put them on! This video will become a favorite!

That sounds so cute!!! I love watching home movies from when I was little on Christmas...I got excited over the littlest things. Which is how it should be...kids these days only want whats new, big, and expensive. Not all kids, but a lot. It is good to hear of a child getting excited over clothes. Very rare wink

OK, I have to put my two cents in. Here goes:

1. The original 1930 James Whale-directed version of Frankenstein. Two big thumbs-up!

2. Yet another James Whale effort; The Bride of Frankenstein, the 1931 sequel to the original movie. Elsa Lanchester's brief appearance as The Monster's bride is worth all the buildup before we get to see her. Also, rave review for the actor who played Dr Pretorius!!!! What ever happened to this guy.

3. Cabaret (with Liza Minelli and Joel Gray), always a great viewing experience no matter how many times viewed.

4. Apocalypse Now. An incredible Francis Ford Coppola film with Martin Sheen and Brando the Great!

5. In Cold Blood. I believe this film was made in the 1960s; of course based on the Truman Capote book of the same name. A really stellar performance by a very young Robert Blake as one of the perpetrators of a heinous crime; a true story and very riveting.

OK, please do not get an impression of my personality from my fav movie list here. I really am not a serial killer or some other terrible thing.

If I have to add one more as a sixth choice, I would include "Natural Born Killers," with Woody Harrelson and Juliet Lewis, a Quentin Tarantino flick. It is wonderful, if one likes this type of viewing experience. OK, enuff from me.

Wow this is hard . . .

1. Titantic (Leonardo Dicaprio)
2. Fifth Element - I know all the lines
3. Matrix(1, 2, & 3) even though 3 isn't out yet
4. Speed
5. The Mummy (1&2)

I'll have to think about the Christmas ones . . .

1. Ten Commandments
2. Scrooge (modern version with Vanessa Williams)
3. Frosty the Snowman
4. It's a Peanuts Christmas
5. The Grinch who stole Christmas (I love cartoons) lol

Everyone will know what a goofball I am now...but I love

1. Airplane.
2. Spaceballs.
3. Hope Floats.
4. Father of the Bride (1 and 2).
5. Miss Congeniality.

Looking at my list makes me really doubt my sanity! As far as Christmas goes, I have two younger brothers, and we faithfully watch Christmas Vacation every year because everyone says our dad is the real-life version of Eddie. lol

This really made me think. In no particular order:

Forrest Gump
Apollo 13
Honeymoon in Vegas
Cover Girl (Gene Kelly, Rita Hayworth)
My Fair Lady

There are about half a dozen more that I had to weed out reluctantly from the top 5, but I would have to say that these are the ones that I could watch over and over and over.

This has been fun to read, and now I have to think for a moment....

1. Shrek. Absolutely the best love story I have ever seen, I can watch it again and again. Also the best comedy I have seen in years.

2. To Kill A Mockingbird. Gorgeous Gregory Peck.

3. The Wizard of Oz. A tradition every year during my childhood, it helped define the season.

4. Michael. Most uplifting! Travolta's best.

5. The Godfather. (part I). Just a classic, loaded with talented actors.

And I'll forego the Christmas option and add anything at all that Denzel Washington plays in....!

This is toooo much fun! I tried to come up with 5 but got more like 35...all your lists made me add movies to my list. (And I've often been accused of "loving" every movie I've ever seen--which is simply NOT TRUE.)

Grouped by genre because I can't possibly rate them:

Comedies: City Slickers, When Harry Met Sally, Dave, In and Out, French Kiss (Kevin Kline makes my toes curl!), Michael, Christmas Vacation, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Steel Magnolias.
Romance: The Goodbye Girl, Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, and Somersby.
Drama: To Kill A Mockingbird, Glory, Shindler's List (oy, that music!!), The Abyss, Memento (I have never worked harder in my life to enjoy a movie more), Shawshank Redemption, The Karate Kid, Rudy, and Mr. Holland's Opus.
Musicals: Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, The King and I (and the dramatic version, Anna and the King, is pretty good, too), and Grease.*
Adventure: The Mask of Zorro, The Fifth Element, and Star Wars.

And finally, because I can't categorize them:
Shrek (you gotta love the big ogre) and Good Will Hunting (quite possibly the best written movie ever, and by two gorgeous babies, too).

These are just some of the movies I've seen over and over and over.

*But the movie I've seen more than any other, ever, is Jesus Christ Superstar (62 times and counting!).

Hmmm...guess I don't sound very discriminating, do I? Hope I never have to come up with (or pare down) a guest list for anything.

Hi, Nat...

Just wanted to ask--have you ever seen the version of the Abyss that shows the big tidal wave coming and some religious not-very-subtle overtones toward the end? I happened to stumble upon that version on TV not too long ago; it intrigued me, but I haven't seen it since. A director's cut, maybe?

I needed a break!

1. Anything Steven Segal. Easy on the eyes, always gets his version of justice, and easy on the eyes!

2. Gone with the wind! Favorite romantic.

3. The Doctor! Good movie about a doctor who gets a taste of his own medicine when he develops cancer and thinks he should be treated special.

4. Wizard of Oz! Just plain cool. Makes me happy.

5. Anything Shirley Temple! She was the big sister I never had growing up and I love the idea that a child can teach an adult life lessons.

Have a relaxing sunday! Thanks for the diversion
