Hello
I have been a visitor to this board for awhile and finally decided to register. Seems like there is a really great bunch of people here, everybody so helpful and friendly.
Anyway, tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and I am wondering if anybody else celebrates it in any special way. When I was growing up, on St. Patrick's Day, my mother always made her delicious Irish stew with lots of lamb, potatoes and onions. This was accompanied by her homemade bread. As kids, we would always try to invent a new "green" dessert but usually just added green food dye to anything that would take it. We still carry on this tradition, with the Irish stew, homemade bread and whatever green desserts my kids (now in their teens) can create. It is sort of a spring ritual, I guess you could say. Anyway, anybody else out there with their own St. Paddy's Day traditions?

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you too Melissa!
No, we don't exactly have a special meal on St. Patrick's Day but we do wear green on that day and if the grandchildren are over, we will make some green desserts, like lime Jell-O or green dyed angel cake with green icing. So, yes, I guess we do celebrate it in a special way.
Right now, unfortunately, it is snowing here. Actually, it is quite beautiful with those big fat snowflakes floating slowly down and covering everything in a blanket of white. But, with St. Patrick's Day here, spring can't be far. In this part of the country, they call a late spring snow, a "poor man's fertilizer". They claim that the snow is good for the crops and helps everything green up. I am just getting anxious for the weather to get sunny and warm.

Top of the morning to all.

An Irish Blessing:

May the road rise to meet you;
May the wind be always at your back;
May the sun shine warm upon your face;

The rain fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Happy St. Pat's day.

That was a very nice Irish Blessing, Gaye, but now that the sun is over the yardarm, I think an Irish toast would be appropriate.

Irish Toast

May those who love us, love us
and those who don't love us
may God turn their hearts,
and if He won't turn their hearts,
may He turn their ankles
so we will know them by their limping.

Now that the sun is about to go down, a small kiss of the blarney stone and a tip of the "irish" party whisky glass to you and yours.
