I am just getting back into transcription, working with a national company. I was required to purchase a c-phone and am trying to learn the basics of using it. One thing has me stuck...I cannot figure out how to control the speed of the dication as it comes through. Cassette transcribers of old had a dial for speed control. Appreciate any help! Thanks, bck2trx

Hi bck2trx,

I have only worked with a Dictaphone model and they are probably all different, but you usually have to punch a couple of numbers to slow it down.

That's helps a lot, does it not?

I would try googling the model of your c-phone and the words speed control or similar words and see if you get any hits, or if you don't have a manual with it, go to the manufacturer's website and see if they have the manual available on line.

Sorry I couldn't help more!

Hi kkb,

Thanks for the quick reply. Actually, you did help...you gave me some ideas. I do have a manual, a copy of one anyway. It covers volume control and many other things but not speed control. I will try your suggestions and see what I find. Will keep ya updated. Thanks again!

Have a blessed day!

I have a Dictaphone C-phone manual from about 10 years ago--don't know if that would help, but I could check there if you think it would be similar.

If you can check your manual without too much trouble I would really appreciate it. My machine is rather old and even so, I doubt that some basic things have changed. I tried googling with no luck. I have also emailed Dictaphone and am waiting their reply. Thanks again!

I went to dig up the manual, and it was the wrong one--it was the Medrite manual! I then remembered that I had turned the Dictaphone instruction booklet in with the c-phone when I left that service.

Sorry--hopefully someone who uses one on a regular basis will stop by and know the answer!

Try this and see if it works. Let me know.
While equipment is turned on, press number:
3 - Go to end of report
4 - Speed up
7 - Go to beginning of report
8 - Fast forward
9 - Slow down

Peggy

Can't try this just yet. Am so "new", I am only due to begin actual transcription tomorrow 5/10 or 5/11. I was just trying to get a leg up and familiarize myself with the equipment. I have printed your directions and will give them a try ASAP. Will get back with you on the results. In the meantime, thanks so much for your help!

I think the OP is now on a digital system, in which case:

Increase/Decrease Speed:

1. With your foot on the play portion of the foot pedal, press the digit [3] key to increase the speed of playback; the [2] key to decrease the speed.

2. Speed will return to normal when the current report is completed.
