I just got a Dictaphone transcriber, and I don't like the headset that comes with the unit, which you can view below.

http://shop.dictaphone.com/productDetail.asp?id=35.

The foam make my ears itchy. Also, I find that the side that doesn't have the connector cable attached to it isn't as loud. The ear piece without the connector cable was detached in the box, and I had to attach it to the chin band. However, it isn't attached tightly even when I push it in as far as it will go on. Does anyone else have this problem? I was disappointed to find that I can't use any other headsets/earphones because it's a two prong plug.

I want to buy another headset by Dictaphone. Have any of you tried the earbud headset or the deluxe headset?

Earbud Headset

Deluxe Headset

The deluxe headset looks like it could be comfortable but it's expensive. I have also heard that they're fragile. Does anyone know why it's so expensive? I would appreciate any feedback on the earbud and deluxe headsets. If you're reading this kkb, can you help me out since you said that you have a Dictaphone transcriber? Which headset do you use?

Thanks,
MES smile

Hey MES,

I have the one that came with mine. I lost the foamies awhile ago and used it without them for a couple of years before I replaced them (at $8 a pair!!??!!!--you know they cost 5 cents to make!).

I've tried the ear buds when I worked in-house and wasn't impressed.

Anyway, you can buy an adapter that converts 2 prongs to the standard plug. The one I found cost $30, but you could use any headset you wanted, so it might be worth it for you. Here's the link I found:

www.choicere.net/adapter/ (I just googled "dictaphone transcribers" plug adapter to get this link).

Also, if you end up buying one of the ones you referenced, you can get a better price by going to www.transcribers.com and clicking "accessories."

Good luck!

Hi:

I had used the Dictaphone for years (the one that looks like a phone). Not sure if they make
more modern ones now. I used the earphones that looks like a Stethoscope. It is metal and it lasted at least 15 years. It has plastic pieces on the ends that goes into the ears which I liked because I use to take them off because they could be wiped off with alcohol.
My point of this note is you could call Dictaphone personally and asked them if they have one like that. When I needed to replace the wires (they do short out ) I had to call them because I would not find them on line.
I use a Wav pedal now and the head set has those foam pieces that I actually took off and use nothing because they itched and they kept getting caught in my hair and clothes.

Hi kkb. What didn't you like about the ear buds? Thank you so much for telling me about the adapter. I'm definitely going to look into that.

Hi MB1954. I've seen pictures of the stethoscope earphones, but I prefer ones that don't go in your ear like that. Thank you for your suggestion though.

Thanks,

I found them difficult to put on and not as fast to take off as the regular ones. That is a pain if you have to answer the phone and get up more than a couple of times an hour. If you don't have any ear buds for a personal CD player, you should maybe buy some for that and try them out (I think those are like $5 a pair for a CD player).

It could just be personal preference on my part.

I bought my adapter for $10 through The Lenox Group (I think is the name) I'll have to look to make sure. If I can find my adapater, you can have it.

I've used the deluxe headsets before, and I really liked them. I didn't care for the ear buds that much. They didn't sit well in my ear.

But as KKB said...it really just boils down to personal preference.

Thanks kkb for your opinion.

Thanks newMThere for your offer, but I got someone to make me an adapter. What did you like about the deluxe headset? Can you hear words clearly and was it comfortable?

Now I want to ask you kkb and anyone else who uses the model 3740 Dictaphone voice processor microcassette transcriber (or other Dictaphone model) whether a "shhhhhhh" sound or static is heard when a tape isn't playing on the machine or speaker and when a tape is playing? When I used the standard headset with the itchy ear foams, I didn't hear the "shhhhhhh" sound. However, when I used different headphones with the adapter, I could hear the sound. I don't know if this is because the standard headset only has one speaker, so I can't hear as much, or if this is due to the fact that the other headphones have two speakers, so I can hear more. It could possibly be the adapter as well. Is this sound normal or supposed to be there? I've used other brands, and there would be silence or very little background noise.

Thanks,
MES smile
